Actions during the flood threat
This year, the winter is very rich in snow, as well as the waters have formed a thick layer of ice, so it is likely that we could expect floods. In order to natural disasters affect us as little as possible, we should be prepared in time and observe special precautions. Although the operational services and local authorities are prepared to give assistance to the flood event, also the people should know what to do and where to turn when assistance is required.
How to handle the flood threat:
- check with local municipality if your home is flood threatened area;
- check local municipality phone numbers (and save it), what number to call for help;
- keep up to weather and forecasts;
- follow the information on water levels in water basins (rivers, lakes) in your populated territory;
- move belongings from the basements and first floors to upper floors or the attic;
- good time take care of the elderly, children, people with disabilities and patients, find them during flooding safer home to their relatives, friends, neighbours (if necessary request the assistance of the local municipality);
- know the place where, if necessary, evacuate pets and how they can be provided with food;
- prepare the evacuation of used vehicles (cars, tractors, etc.) and the floating tools (boats, etc.);
- in the case of evacuation prepare for taking up personal documents (passports, etc.), money, valuables, food, medicines, clothing and footwear, as well as other essential things.
Recommendations for action in case of flooding:
-
in case of direct threats inform State Fire and Rescue Service by calling to 112 or 01, as well as local municipality;

-
stay on the site and signal on your location until help arrives.
In case of refusal to evacuate provide themselves with food, drinking water, medicines, and other essential goods. Refusal to evacuate should be approved in written form to assume responsibility for possible consequences.
In case of necessity State Fire and Rescue Service will inform inhabitants about the threat of flooding (rapid water level rise) by turning in alarm sirens (where alarm sirens installed). After hearing of alarm sirens inhabitants should listen information broadcasted in radio and television.
